How does an engine work and what are the types

Engine is a device that converts thermal {heat} energy into mechanical 

energy, by which we convert thermal energy into physical working very easily by the engine.

There are mainly two types of engines

I.C Engine [internal combustion]

E.c Engine [External combustion]

INTERNAL ENGINE 

INTERNAL ENGINE In this way the piston works inside the cylinder.

There are also two types of I.C engines as shown above. 

[1] S.I ENGINE [SPARK -IGNITION ENGINE ] 

[2] C.I ENGINE [COMPREESSION  IGNITION ENGINE] 

Examples- moter cycle ,scooty,two wheeler

       जबकि 

EXTERNAL  ENGINE 

You get to see a slight difference in the texture of the EXTERNAL ENGINE as compared to the INTERNAL ENGINE.

 

In EXTERNAL engine the piston works outside the cylinder

   S.I    ENGINE                  

S. I. The act of burning fuel in the engine is drawn by the spark, due to 

which the spark comes through the cylinder, which burns the fuel and hence the name S.I.

Petrol is used as fuel in S.I engine

        

C.I   ENGINE

In C.I, the work of setting fire to the cylinder is done by fuel compression, hence it is called compressor ignition engine.

Diesel is used as fuel in C.I engine
