What is a Boiler?

The boiler is a closed vessel in which steam is prepared from water by setting fire to fuel and on heating water in it, steam is formed at a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure. Steam is used in many places.
For example, running engines in steam engines, obtaining electricity in steam turbines for processing in many factories, heating homes, and factories.

type of boilers

(1) depending on the axis of the boiler

(b) Horizontal Boiler
(c) vertical boiler

what is a boiler, boiler parts, boiler componetnts

(1) (a) Horizontal Boiler
If the axis of the boiler drum is in a horizontal position, it is called a horizontal boiler.
Eg - Lakeshire Boiler, Babcock - Wilcox Boiler

(1) (b) vertical boiler -
If the axis of the boiler is in a vertical position then it is called a vertical boiler.
eg - collection boiler

(2) based on the flow of hot gases -

#types of boilers
(a) Fire Tube Boiler –
If the hot gases coming out of the furnace pass through the inside of the tube and the water stays outside the tube and fills the shell, it is called a fire boiler.
Eg - Lancashire Boiler, Koshan Boiler

(b) Water Tube Boiler –
If water passes inside the tube and hot gases are affected around the tubes, such a boiler is called a water tube boiler.
Eg - Bibcock Boiler - Bibcocks Boiler, Stirling Boiler Other High-Pressure Boilers

(3) on fuel basis

(a) coal fire boiler
(b) oil fire boiler
(c) Electric Fire Boiler
(4) based on steam pressure

(4) low-pressure boiler –

Boilers in which steam is generated at a pressure of more than 80 bar, such boilers are called high-pressure boilers.
Eg- Cocoron Boiler, Wilcox Boiler, Benson

(5) depending on the usage

(a) stationary (stationary) boiler –
Boilers are located in one place, such boilers are called stationary boilers.
(b) Portable Boiler –
Such boilers which can easily move from one place to another are called portable boilers.
For example - in railway engines, ships, etc.

(6) based on water circulation -

(a) Natural circulation boiler-
Such a boiler in which the flow of water occurs without any external force, this type of circulation occurs in a low-pressure boiler, such a boiler is called a natural circulation boiler.
Eg - Lancashire boiler, Cochran boiler, etc.
(b) Forced circulation boiler -
Such boilers in which the circulation of water is done by force through the pump, this type of circulation is called a high-pressure boiler.
E.g. Becoq Wilcox Boiler
